Multi frame graphic notations

 When I did this project I tried to imagine a composition of multiple photos, each one being a separate part of the song. I also envisioned the various frames as different instruments that could be incorporated into the final score. Focusing on similarities but underlying contrasts in the multiframe pictures conveyed a sense of harmony but also variation that would help create a cohesive musical composition.

Graphic Notation- Set 1

When shooting the graphic notation assignment I focused on identifying various elements in one picture. By doing this i was trying to locate multiple aspects of the photo that could ultimately be interpreted as multiple aspects of a musical composition. While variety is not always the goal of a picture, music has several components involved to create a unique and specific sound. Because of that i thought my photos should reflect that structure and have many different facets to it to make musical interpretation easier. 

First Assignment- Different points of view

Photographing subjects from a different point of view is something I was heavily focused on last year. My final project was of architecture but shot in a way so that the fact it was a building was not apparent at first sight. Considering my past with this concept I found the assignment of shooting from various angles and less obvious points of view fairly easy. I like to find what i think is the most interesting aspect of what I'm shooting and take a normal picture of it first, review it, and locate the place that would make for the most interesting and unique second shot. 

Aspects of Style

i originally wanted to take a picture of the clouds and colors of the sunset but the hard lines of the wires with the soft lines caught my eye, the contrasts contribute to my style

Again the contrast between dark and light drew me to take this picture. I like it because of the indefinite line that separates the sky and trees makes it feel random but cohesive at the same time

A main part of my style is focus, and the lines of the plant blurring out and then sharpening caught my eye and caused me to change the original composition of the picture

Shadows and light have always been something that draw me into photos and while this is an extremely simple picture i think that the varied values give it a surprisingly unique feel

Shadows and light were also going to be the original focus of this picture but the negative space that the arcs create while being symmetrical contributes to my style. 

Memories

I am an only child so when my parents had dinner parties I would entertain myself with wax from candles. Dipping my fingertips into the warm pool, covering leafs to save and ruining napkins. 

I used to love hot airs balloons. The patterns were so amazing to be and I made a huge deal every time I saw one, wishing I was up there. 

I spent hundreds of hours in a car with my parents driving from Tahoe and this picture of highway sunset billboards and fields brings back nostalgia. Theres a specific feeling of security and familiarity when laying down in the back seat of a car with your parents in the front. 

My mom and I used to take carriage rides all the time and I would try to set the horses free because I thought they shouldn't be tied up in a city. Their eyes always looked so tired and sad to me. 

My favorite thing in the entire world when I was younger was running and running and running through parks and fields and lawns. the tilted angle makes me feel the movement of running and how I saw the world when I was little. 

Portraits/Sentences

Emily uses negative space in a unique way while allowing the foreground to become prominent. Her perspective on her subjects shows emotion and another side to them you would not see normally.

Isaac’s photos appear surreal once he is finished with them, a result of his careful and creative editing process. He manipulates the look and feel of a photo through various effects and in the end they seem to hold a hidden message behind them.

Matt’s photos often have a specific point of focus and sense of texture. They explore various aspects of a fairly simple concept like fabric or a pattern.

Chloe is very talented in shooting landscapes and still photography. She frames her pictures in a cohesive manner to make them feel complete and interesting.

Tess has a very particular style that I could recognize from anywhere, its very intimate and revealing of her subjects. She takes one important aspect of her subject and uses to convey a larger message about them.

Vlad often photographs people and portraits in a way that depicts them in a fresh and unique way. His post photo-shoot editing process also adds a lot of character to his images.

Joel also gives his pictures a lot of attention in the editing process, and likes color splash and specific points of focus. His pictures have a good use of color and sharpness that make them fun to look at.

Haley has a sense of repetition and pattern in her pictures. She also does interesting edits and props in her pictures which makes them feel surreal and interesting.

Winslow has a theme of depth of field and fading lines. His photographs use color and shadows to create more complexity in them.

Leah likes to photograph animals in a way that is almost personification. She gives them personality and shows them in a way that evokes emotion.
